The second grade classes were working on their presentations for Black History Month again this year. For three weeks they researched, planned, and practiced. This year was a bit different from last year - this year, instead of posters, they used the iPad app "Haiku Deck" to create digital presentations to display the information they learned. Finally the day arrived for them to present and they did an EXCELLENT job! They performed in front of all four classes of their second grade peers. I was so proud of each of the groups. Please take a look at the videos of their presentations. If you have time, you can click the links below to see their Haiku Deck presentations! Hayleigh was chosen to be our Flying Falcon of the month in December! I am so proud to have Hayleigh in my class. Here are some of the things her classmates had to say about her: Hayleigh is a good role model to everybody. She works quietly. She is a good listener and at recess she offers to play if you want to play with her – that is nice. She always does her work and tries hard every time. She asks good questions. She always raises her hand and she never goes to yellow. Whenever we are not supposed to talk – she doesn’t talk. She only talks when she is supposed to like when you are supposed to answer a question. She read the books in her head quietly. She is a kind friend. She listens to the teacher or listens to the books that the teachers read. If somebody skins their knee up then Hayleigh will come and help them. She doesn’t hardly ever get in trouble by the teacher because she always pays attention. If someone doesn’t have anyone to play with at recess then she will walk to them and ask if they want to play. Keep up the great work Joshua! You rock! The new school year has begun and I can't even begin to express how much I love our new class. This time of year always causes my heart to be a bit conflicted. There are so many feelings rolling around that I'm always a bit confused. When students from last year come to visit I feel proud remembering how much they learned during their time with me, and that I did my best to prepare them for the world ahead. I'm always a bit nostalgic and begin to miss them terribly. I love each and every one of them, and, much like a parent it's hard to let them go on and continue growing up. Then it happens. The new students walk through the door. We are all a bit nervous wondering how the year will begin. All of a sudden, I get that first hug - a little boy tells me how glad he is that I'm his teacher - I see the relieved smile from a parent... at it's all over. I give my heart away to a new group of young minds. Just look at those faces! I can just tell this is going to be a great year. Super duper great. Will this class be remarkable? Undoubtedly yes. Not in the same way as last year's class. They will be their own type of remarkable. I can't wait to grow with them. The second grade classes have been working on their presentations for Black History Month. They worked hard for three weeks researching, planning, and practicing. Finally the day arrived for them to present and they did a WONDERFUL job! They performed in front of all three classes of their second grade peers. I was so proud of each of the groups. Please take a look at the student blog posts about each of their projects.
